Caroline Homfray

Caroline Homfray is an educator and artist, working with drawing, painting, printing and stitch. With a background in art history and as a maker, she’s driven by curiosity and loves the abundance, oddness and beauty of the natural world and the man-made, exploring it with a playful approach to media. She’s created murals, made wedding dresses, produced works to commission, both painted and stitched, and exhibited her paintings, drawings and embroidered jewellery. Teaching others and reflecting on art and the experience of making in her regular blog is an important part of her practice. For the RSN, she has taught machine embroidery and tambour, taught and advised on the art element of the Future Tutors Programme, and since 2020 has further developed a series of drawing and design day classes for embroiderers.

Major projects have included a commission from V&A Enterprises for specially designed embroidered jewellery to sell alongside their Gothic: Art for England exhibition, and embroidered jewellery pieces for selected National Trust houses.

She was also part of the RSN team that worked on the Princess of Wales’s wedding dress.
