Royal School of Needlework

Welcome to the Royal School of Needlework The International Centre
of Excellence for the
Art of Hand Embroidery

Tutors: Owen Davies

Owen Davies graduated from the RSN Apprenticeship and now teaches Certificate & Diploma at Hampton Court Palace. He co-authored the international best-selling book Embroidered Knot Gardens with Gill Holdsworth, published by Batsford/Anova in 2006.

Following this he worked for the RSN Studio and taught Apprentices and Certificate students.  He pioneered the needlework consultancy within the John Lewis Partnership, facilitating workshops on a variety of embroidery related themes throughout the retail chain.  Returning to the RSN as Head of Education, Owen ran the Apprenticeship programme. Since then Owen has researched and developed his fascination with Elizabethan and Stuart embroideries.

He was commissioned by the BBC to teach Hilary Kay how to embroider on the William Morris Brilliantly British series. His aim is to encourage as many people as possible to "take up the needle" and to embrace the art of embroidery, an art that is as relevant today as it was for our ancestors in days gone by.
Owen will be teaching at the RSN USA Summer School in Lexington, Kentucky in 2018.
