Class Dates: Monday 18 - Wednesday 20 June 2018

Take the opportunity to spend three days with RSN Tutor Pippa Foulds to explore Goldwork as a study sampler using traditional techniques, with a contemporary twist.  This class will give you an overview of how to use and handle metal threads in various ways.  It will build up a portfolio for you as a reference for future projects, or ideas you that you can explore further.  The class will include Couching and Cut Purl techniques, using a variety of metal threads, some of which you may not have used before, and shown how you can use them more creatively as well as traditionally.  Four samples will be worked per day in a square format on a base fabric provided.

There will be no kit provided, but there will be a choice of metal threads for sale, along with everything you may need for the class.

Each sample set will be worked on a 8 or 10 inch ring frame, and if you have any metal threads, please bring these along too.

There is also the opportunity to continue your studies with Creative Goldwork Studies Part 2 with Tracy Franklin (DTF1)

You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

The class will run from 10am-4pm at 3 Fowlers Yard, Back Silver Street, Durham DH1 3RA

Goldwork

This technique has its history in military, ecclesiastical and royal regalia, but it also creates the most beautiful and dramatic embroideries. Using a wide variety of metal threads, it can be combined with other techniques to produce luxurious effects.
