Class Date: Wednesday 4 July 2018

For anyone who wants to learn or practise their skills of drawing from close observation, a useful skill for creating your own designs. This taster day class feeds into and builds on the Drawing and Design for Embroidery 3 day course. You do not need to feel confident about drawing! In this small class you will be able to proceed at your own pace, in a non-judgmental and supportive atmosphere We will be focussing on how to observe closely and draw what you see, both in colour and black and white. The theme of the day is drawing flowers, which are historically such an important subject for embroiderers and artists. There will be some fun warm-up drawing exercises. We’ll study a selection of flowers closely, learning how to see shapes and structures, make tonal drawings and then venture into colour. If weather permits, we will draw in the gardens at Hampton Court; cut flowers will be provided as well.

Please bring your own. The minimum requirements are: an A4 sketchbook, B and 2B graphite pencils, fine
drawing pen, a tin of at least 12 watercolour pencils and a waterbrush. Links on where to buy these materials
will be provided before the class. If you want to bring any other media you like to use or want to try, please do!

This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU
