This course has already taken place.

Richelieu embroidery is one of the forms of Whitework techniques collectively known as Cut  Work. These techniques all use Running Stitch and Buttonhole Stitch to define and secure patterns in fabric where the background has been cut away to create a rich lace like effect. Richelieu is characterised by the picots found on the buttonhole bars holding the fabric together.

The class will cover Running and Buttonhole Stitch as well as the surface stitches Fly, seeding and Pistol.

The Flower image is the set design for this one day class. The Butterfly image will be available to students attending both the Richelieu and Broderie Anglaise day classes should they wish, as it is a larger design and combines the two techniques.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU

The term applies to a variety of techniques, ranging from the bold stitches to more delicate work. Whitework traditionally uses white thread on white fabric in bridal and christening wear and ecclesiastical pieces. It also adapts well to contemporary designs.
