Traditionally Crewel work is an embroidery technique in which surface stitches are worked in a 2ply worsted crewel wool on a firm fabric, usually linen twill. This class will take this technique a step further by experimenting with other materials such as stranded cotton, Perle, seed and bugle beads as well as crewel wool. The stitches used in the set design will focus on texture, light play and dimension. Students may, if they wish, use alternate stitches and will be encouraged to experiment with their Stitch, bead and thread combinations.

The kit will include linen twill with design, class notes, a set selection of threads and beads in the students own colour choice. These will be chosen on the first day of the class.

Nb the worked model illustrated shows the type of work that will be taught. The line drawing is the set design for the 5 day class.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.
This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU

Jacobean Crewelwork
Crewelwork is an ideal technique
for anyone new to embroidery. Introducing a range of stitches and an element of shading, this technique can be used for traditional and contemporary designs.
