Introduction to Silk and Gold is suitable for anyone who has attended an introduction day class in Embroidery, Jacobean or Goldwork. This course will introduce you to some basic application of metal threads such as passing, twists and cut work. Combining them with an introduction into silk shading to adding both colour and richness to this form of embroidery.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

This class will run from 10am- 4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey. KT8 9AU

This technique has its history in military, ecclesiastical and royal regalia, but it also creates the most beautiful and dramatic embroideries. Using a wide variety of metal threads, it can be combined with other techniques to produce luxurious effects.

Silk Shading
Also known as ‘painting with a needle’, this beautiful technique uses a number
of colours in cotton, skillfully blended together to create the natural appearance of a flower, fruit, plant or animal.
