Progress with Jacobean Crewelwork - Hampton Court (Code 3115)

Date Days Price Tutor Places left
18/08/2017 3 £222.00 Shelley Cox sold out

This course has already taken place.

Further enhance your knowledge of traditional Jacobean embroidery with this progression class.

On the first day you will have the opportunity to look at Jacobean and crewel embroidery plus related works from the RSN collection, and browse our library of technique and art books.

From there, you will have the opportunity to either work through design and planning a Jacobean project, or to focus on samples of techniques and stitches.

The tutor will demonstrate to the group, and also give plenty of individual attention to each student allowing you to develop your embroidery skills. The class is suitable for students with experience of Jacobean or crewelwork (e.g. a developing class).  The smaller class size will allow for lots of one-to-one time with the tutor.

There will be a range of crewel wool and linen twill available to purchase during the class, but this may also be a good opportunity to use any supplies you have at home.  Your tutor will be able to advise you which materials are suitable for the techniques.  For this class no ‘kit’ will be supplied, but you will need to purchase some items during the class.

If you have a project at home which you have started, you are welcome to bring this with you.  Your tutor will be able to advise on suitable stitches or help you with your technique.

Please bring a notebook, pencils and a camera/phone if you have one to make notes and record images.

There is no class kit but materials will be available to buy on the day in order to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

This class will run from 10am- 4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey. KT8 9AU

Jacobean Crewelwork
Crewelwork is an ideal technique
for anyone new to embroidery. Introducing a range of stitches and an element of shading, this technique can be used for traditional and contemporary designs.
