This course has already taken place.

The aim of this course is to introduce students to the basics of pulled thread embroidery.  We will look at patterns, threads, and design considerations.

We will stitch a small design incorporating examples of different pulled work patterns,  medium and small scale, including Ladder Stitch, Cobbler Filling, and Eyelets etc.  The piece will be finished with surface stitches including Satin and Chain or Stem Stitch.   Students may have some experience of stitching but not necessarily pulled work.

By the end of the day students will:

  • have experienced a variety of pulled work patterns
  • have some understanding of choices in relation to design
  • have undertaken some additional surface stitches
  • have sufficient skill and knowledge to finish their kit at home

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

This class runs from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey. KT8 9AU

The term applies to a variety of techniques, ranging from the bold stitches to more delicate work. Whitework traditionally uses white thread on white fabric in bridal and christening wear and ecclesiastical pieces. It also adapts well to contemporary designs.
