Blackwork is a counted embroidery technique in which decorative patterns are made up by a series of joined back stitches on a 35 thread per inch even weave linen.
On this beginners Blackwork embroidery class you will work 5 different counted patterns and shade with 2 different weights of thread to produce a striking Moth design.
Shading is also achieved by fading out the pattern on the right hand wing.

A clear illustrated instruction booklet and a chart will guide you through this hand embroidery project which once finished can be mounted into the 4 inch hoop and hung with a ribbon (included).

Suitable for beginners.

The class kit will include everything you require to complete the project. You may like to bring your own embroidery scissors and you will be able to borrow ring frames, magnifiers and lights (if needed) on the day.

This class will run from 10am-4pm at Hampton Court Palace, East Molesey, Surrey KT8 9AU

Blackwork is a historical technique that has been developed by the RSN to become a form of tonal stitching. The technique uses a variety of geometric stitches in one colour which enables dramatic effects to be created. It is particularly effective with portraits and architectural themes.
