Peacocks & Pomegranates Exhibition
Peacocks and pomegranates have long been used as motifs on embroidery in a wide range of cultures. Running from January until July 2016, the ‘Peacocks & Pomegranates’ exhibition will feature pieces from the Royal School of Needlework’s Textile Collection. It will include objects from China and India, as well as from Western Europe, which either take these icons as their central motif or feature them prominently. Visitors will see some exquisite pieces and some fun objects, including peacocks, worked in a variety of threads, beads and metal threads from India.
These give the opportunity to view our fabulous Peacocks & Pomegranates Exhibition followed by a taster hand embroidery session inspired by the exhibition itself. Commencing at 11am in the morning with an illustrated talk, a senior member of staff will share fascinating historical facts and information about the Royal School of Needlework. Visitors will then have the opportunity to view the exquisite pieces in the Peacocks & Pomegranates Exhibition. In the afternoon, the taster class will introduce you to a variety of embroidery stitches and techniques guided by our expert RSN Tutors.
