Our Degree is validated by the University for the Creative Arts (UCA) and is delivered at the Royal School of Needlework, Hampton Court Palace in Surrey.  It is the only Hand Embroidery Degree of its kind in Europe.

The aim of our Hand Embroidery Degree is to produce skilled practitioners, able to bring individuality to design and stitch application.  Our Graduates pursue professional careers across the textile and embroidery spectrum; in haute couture, costume, film and theatre, conservation and restoration, as designer makers and in teaching, research and further educational opportunities.

  • In the first year your growing personal creative identity will meet traditional hand embroidery techniques and contemporary applications
  • The second year enables you to explore your personal areas of interest through professional workplace opportunities and individual projects
  • The BA (Hons) Top-Up year continues to offer you professional opportunities, a dissertation and an extended personal project

Our Degree and you
Our Degree is for you if you're planning to pursue a professional career path in embroidery or in related areas.  You'll acquire the technical skills of traditional hand embroidery (you’ll study crewelwork, blackwork, whitework, silk shading, raised work, goldwork and canvaswork) combined with art and design and contextual studies.  Successfully achieving the FdA in Hand Embroidery will give you a recognised academic degree, open doors to continuing higher education and help prepare you for a professional career in your chosen area which could include fashion, textiles, conservation, costume or as a designer/maker.
