Royal School of Needlework

Welcome to the Royal School of Needlework To teach, practise and promote the art of hand embroidery

Wool Circle - £500 per year

Wool has been used to embroider for centuries and most famously in the Bayeaux Tapestry.  William Morris and Walter Crane of the 19th century Arts and Crafts Movement created designs to be produced in wool work by the Royal School of Needlework.  Some of these pieces were displayed at the Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition in 1876, taking art needlework to the United States for the first time   In 2009 the RSN created embroidered hangings for the Great Tower at Dover Castle in Kent using crewel wool to embroider in the 12th century style.
