Also known as 'needlepoint' and 'tapestry', the use of wool on canvas was traditionally used for hard-wearing seat covers and rugs. Using different textures of thread and a variety of stitches gives canvas work another dimension of depth and movement.
Stitched Response to the Written Word with James Hunting - 29 & 30 April Using the inspiration drawn from the written word this workshop will look at the use of traditional stitches and techniques to produce a piece that will challenge ways of working and the use of stitches. This workshop will help you to look at your creative practice in stitch and how to use stitches in an alternative way.
Introduction to Whitework with Rachel Doyle - 30 April
Whitework applies to a variety of techniques, from the bold stitches of Mountmellick and Hardanger to the delicate work of Ayrshire and Fine White. Traditionally worked with white thread on white fabric, it has often been used in bridal wear, christening wear and ecclesiastical embroidery.
