The use of wool on canvas was traditionally used for hard-wearing seat covers and rugs. However, using different textures of thread and a variety of stitches gives canvaswork a new dimension of depth and movement for artistic expression. Canvas stitches used with vibrant metal threads is an exciting combination for experiment.

From a design inspired by Charles Rennie Mackintosh learn how to work Florentine stitch on antique canvas before applying felt padding and a selection of metal threads. A little experience of goldwork required.
