Introduction to Goldwork
The RSN is renowned worldwide for teaching goldwork. Traditional methods are still used in religious embroidery and for livery and royal commissions but goldwork also lends itself to contemporary designs for fashion and interiors. Although known as "goldwork", this sumptuous technique uses metal threads of all kinds and colours.
You will be supplied with a kit containing fabric with a design in place, metal threads, couching thread, beeswax, needles and instructions. The design will introduce you to simple padding techniques and basic purl, check and Japanese threads and how to couch them down. The two day class will offer a more complex design but will still be suitable for inexperienced stitchers.
