Mrs Delany and Her Circle: 19 February - 01 May 2010
Sir John Soane's Museum, 13 Lincoln's Inn Fields, London WC2A 3BP
Mrs Delany, née Mary Granville (1700-1788), was a significant figure in the practice of natural history in Georgian England and was known for her embroidery skills. During her long life she was a pattern of accomplishment and curiosity for her contemporaries and became a model to subsequent generations. She is perhaps best known for her botanical 'paper mosaics' and the exhibition will show a range of these, her drawings, collages and textiles, including pieces of the court dress that Mrs Delany designed and stitched.
We are excited that the RSN Foundation Degree students will be demonstrating needle-painting by copying several of the flowers in silk on replica pieces of the court dress.
The demonstrations are on the following Saturdays between 10.30am and 4.00pm
February 27; March 13; March 27; April 17 and May 01
